Following the theme of recent days highlighting some of the gospel work going forward through our partnership with our family of churches – Sovereign Grace…
My good friend Kenneth Maresco and his wife Valori (from Covenant Life Church, Gaithersburg, MD) have just returned from a recent trip to Ethiopia to visit the Sovereign Grace church there. The above picture shows Kenneth and Valori with Wondy (left) and Mo (2nd left), the pastors of the church.
Covenant Life Church Addis Ababa started 5 years ago and is having a huge impact in that city. You can read more about the church and Kenneth and Valori’s trip by reading Kenneth’s Ethiopia Journal.
Continuing our theme of looking at missions and seeing the gospel go forward to the ends of the earth, and our involvement and partnership through our Sovereign Grace family…
Covenant Mercies is a gospel-centered charity established for the purpose of serving the poor, the orphan and the widow.
My friend Doug Hayes (who I was at Pastor College with) is the founder and executive director of this charity and leads and oversees the work of Covenant Mercies, both in the locality of Pennsylvania, USA (where Covenant Mercies is based, housed in the Covenant Fellowship Church building) and overseas in places like Uganda, Ethiopia and Zambia.
They do great work, especially the orphan-sponsorship program – where anybody can contribute monthly and sponsor a child, providing money for the health, welfare and education of some of the poorest children in our world today.
For more info about this child sponsorship program check out the video here.
Having given an update on the relief work Sovereign Grace is involved with in Burma, I thought you’d be interested to hear some other exciting developments Sovereign Grace is connected with, that is taking the gospel to parts of the world we will never visit.

As cyclone disaster-relief efforts continue in Burma (Myanmar), Sovereign Grace Ministries has the opportunity to provide assistance through our relationship with a local group of churches in that country. This ministry includes more than 40 churches, six of which are located in the hardest-hit areas of Burma.
Since the cyclone, we have established a Burma Disaster Relief fund and are contributing financially toward aid efforts in that country. Thanks to the giving of members and friends of Sovereign Grace churches, $50,000 of aid is already being distributed and we are preparing to send another $50,000. People from the churches we support have traveled to the devastated Delta region to distribute aid in many villages, including some where no aid had yet reached. Drinking water and more than 40 tons of rice have been distributed to more than 10,000 people. Those who are providing aid have also had opportunities to preach the gospel.
The need for aid in Burma continues. In addition to providing immediate relief to churches and their communities, we hope to assist with rebuilding efforts in the future. Many families will need new homes, and many churches will need new places to meet.
