Everyday Talk by John Younts

talk-younts.jpg

God gives very specific instructions for being a parent in Deuteronomy 6:4-9.  He wants us to talk to our children about God and his ways!

In this book author John Younts offers practical advice and creative ways to do just that!

It is practical and biblical and gives great hope and encouragement to us as parents.  It provides penetrating insights into the heart and always keeps before the reading parent the importance and centrality of the gospel.

Younts, skillfully teaches us how ordinary, everyday conversations with our children can be used to show our children the kindness and wisdom of God, so as to lead them into a greater awareness of His gospel, presence and glory.

A MUST read!

Just two further resources to recommend to serve us as parents with regard to our role and task:

1. Parenting Interviews from Covenant Life Church.

sp_masthead.jpg

Three couples from the pastoral team at Covenant Life Church (our Sovereign Grace sister church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA) are interviewed about parenting issues.

Each couple tackles questions on a different age group and provides three essential “Big Ideas” that our parenting should focus on during these years:

Brian & Kristen Chesemore on younger children.
Kenneth & Valori Maresco on children in the early teen years.
John & Nancy Loftness on children in the late teens & university years.

The audio file can be downloaded from here.

The Family Room, the ministry serving families at Covenant Life Church also write a blog which provides useful articles on marriage and parenting issues.

2. Hints for Parenting.

Hints for Parenting is a book by an 19th Century pastor in New York City, Gardiner Spring.

Rich in its content, the book has an added bonus, as it contains short gospel encouragements from pastor Tedd Tripp designed to enhance our reading of the book to maxmise the benefit from Gardiner Spring’s wisdom.

The content of this little book is arranged under four headings:

a. Important Truths to teach your children.
b. Measure to take to teach these things.
c. Motvations to be faithful in this parental work.
d. Encouragements from the promises of God.
